So this post will consist of all of the production of the project, including the editing too. The way I am planning to do this is day by day basis. So for example, I will gather the footage for each day then edit on that day and evidence it. Following those 3 days, I will looking over the final edit and polish up where needed. I feel like this structure is the best and most efficient way of doing the project, it will also allow me to put that into a folder structure too, here is the folder tree:
Day 1
So today me and Tom from my class went out to film. I got Tom to do the filming as it was needed to have a second person. We had all of the equipment needed and we went out to film, we filmed around the pier area. For the story, I felt like the pier was significant as it would foreshadow what would happen in the story. The shots we were shooting today were these:
So when we went out to film today, we ran into a couple of problems. There was a problem with noise on the camera display, this was because I was trying to adapt the camera to the night and this created some noise. I hope to eliminate most of the noise in post production.
The other problem was locations, it was very frustrating trying to look for locations to film the close-up shots, due to this mishap, I decided that it would be easier to have 5 close up shots other than 6. This was so the shots could be more realistic and more manageable.
The final problem we had was improvisation. Due to doing circumstances and methods of doing this as we were out there, I ended up improvising some parts such as 'looking over the pier', this ended up with a shot of me on the pier itself. This was good but also bad as it was not as organised as I had wanted it to be.
However, I feel as though the shoot went really well and even though we had improvisation, it was good improvisation and I feel like it would be beneficial.
The next part to work on was editing, I got the videos off of the SD card and put the videos into the correct folder. After this, I created a premiere project which would facilitate the entire music video editing process. In terms of evidencing my editing, I am going to screen record so you will be able to see my entire editing in process. I will pick up on points and analyse them individually.
The first thing I did in terms of gathering content was adding the song for the music video, So I went on to youtube and got the song and put it into an MP3 converter
Here is the screen recording:
I then realised while editing the start of the song that I did not actually have enough footage to last the entire intro which I thought I would have. This resulted in recording a shot in my bedroom, this was actually beneficial as it was a good chance to foreshadow what was going to happen again. This however was frustrating initially.
So I then added the new video and added that on to the main edit.
In conclusion, I feel like today has been incredibly productive. However, it was frustrating at points especially with not enough footage. Overall though, it was a good production day.
Day 2
So today I filmed the second scene of the music video in my house. I initially was meant to have 2 people filming with me but it ended up being one person due to the fact that the other person had unforeseen circumstances. This however ended up going really well actually due to the fact we worked around the shots. These were the shots we were filming today:
Just to comment about the shot list, this ended up being changed drastically. This is mainly because I found that the overall shot count was just too short so I decided to add some fill shots that would be able to also kill some time in the music video and also make the parts sync up in the way that I want to.
In the last shot with the invisible transition, this didn't work in the end as my room was too small for that. However, we did drag out this scene with some extra shots to emphasise the scene and the mood more. We also used the fisheye lens to help this.
This is the screen recording of the editing:
Day 3
So Day 3 of editing actually didn't end up being on the friday due to problems with the temperature, it was very frosty on the day and ice was on the area where we wanted to film. I then decided to film on the wednesday after as it was still a bit frosty and I had a couple of problems conflicting with other projects.
This is the shot list:
In terms of the shot list, this ended up being changed too due to the environement we were in, where we were filming etc and also a lot of improvisation ended up being made as I went along and thought of different things.
To film this, it was incredibly fun and productive to do. I am glad I ended up filming on this day as it actually turned out pretty well and I actually had more fun as I got to be more creative with shots.
One problem I came across was that I didn't have enough footage to last the 4 minute total duration of the song, so I had to cut the music down to compensate for that. It is a big blow but it teaches me a lesson for later that I can capitalise on.
Screen recording of the editing:
So after this part of the editing, I came to a problem with the video editing process. The videos that I was rendering into the software ended up corrupting and became unusable. To fix this, I had to go on to the computers at college and edit the rest on final cut pro. This was stressful as it messed up the already tight schedule that I had on my hands but was actually manageable.
Here is part 2 of the editing:
and upon editing this, I finally managed to finish the music video. This is the final result:
