In class, we then participated in a workshop that involved looking at various lighting techniques and ways that we could use lighting to create different effects.
The first lighting technique we looked at was the rembrandt technique. The name originates from a dutch painter named 'Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn' who was around in the 1600s. He was famous because for portraits he used lighting from a window that would create an isolated triangle on the right side of someone's face. This was a beneficial technique that he used in his time and allowed the lighting in a photo to be creative and unique. This tehcnique involves having a light above the subject's head at a 45 degree angle, creating the triangular effect. Here is an example:
Looking at the photograph, if you see on the right side of the subject's face, there is a clear triangle made out of the light that is coming in, this is the rembrandt technique in action.
