So after doing the multi-image and after I reflected on that. I decided to move on to the single-image, originally I had the idea of doing some sort of mafia image. However after rethinking this and taking into account the timescale in which I had to do it in, I decided to use a different method and a different single-image. Over the past 2 weeks, I have been doing quite a lot of photography in my spare time and I ended up deciding to use one of the photos over those past 2 weeks rather than trying to do another photo. This was mainly because of time constraints and mostly my own fault for not being able to do the multi-image on time.
The photo I ended up choosing was this one:
The reason I chose this photo was because I felt like it was one of the only images out of my photography that could qualify as a narrative. The story I am trying to tell here is that there is a ghost lingering around the abandoned shed. The way this is depicted is by seeing the silhouette on the left and also the absence of the shadow on the right. The shadow of the ghost can't be seen on the right, proving and deepening the narrative even more. I feel this photo really captures that dark and eerie narrative and captures that really well with the set of the scene. As you can see here, the shed is very run down and very dirty, also reinforcing and helping the eerie and unsettling vibe/atmosphere.
For this photo, I set the camera outside of the shed with the two windows in view, I had the camera set at a 100 ISO rating but with a 0.8 shutter speed, it was also shot with a NIKON D7100 that I borrowed from the college. In terms of the settings, I did this so I could make it dark but also allow a little light in to create the silhouette. I am planning to edit the image more in photoshop to make it a little darker as it won't affect the silhouette really.
After doing the original photo and wanting to define the atmosphere more, I decided to hop on to photoshop and edit some parts, making it more unsettling and uneasy. I messed around with some of the exposure and levels settings to try and make it darker but also defined.
This was the final result:
I feel like now it's been edited, the whole atmosphere is darker and its more eerie and I feel like the edit is a huge benefit to the overall composition of the photo.
Overall, I have enjoyed this project a lot and it has allowed me to be more creative and to employ a more creative mindset when taking photos. I feel like this has been a huge benefit to my learning and has allowed me to further my knowledge in photography.
